Our Venom Is Our Vote
It's been a while but we have faith you are still involved in fighting the good fight!
We have invited Robert Stevenson to be our guest speaker for this meeting. He is currently the Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. He also served as the police chief of Livonia.
Rob will be speaking on SB 594, a bill that would create a "Special Police Agency".
The Detroit News (article linked below) in describing the legislation worded it this way, "Michigan would authorize a new class of private and potentially for-profit police agencies with full arrest powers under legislation proposed and pushed by Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof."
We feel it's a bill worth having a discussion on while bringing it to your attention... along with SB 97.
This bill is allows the creation of Public-Private Partnerships. It's a bill that many of us have been watching. It's a bill that has been tried before and failed (did not pass). It's a bill filled with words such as: consumption charges, user fees, eminent domain, impose, enforce, transit system, railway, tax exemptions (don't get excited, it's not about you), etc.
Link to the bill's language -http://www.legislature.mi.gov/documents/2017-2018/billengrossed/Senate/pdf/2017-SEBS-0097.pdf
Also speaking will be Arne Giummo about the December 16th event she will be hosting - "Wreaths Across America".
We've added in an informal survey on the top 3 things you think your tax dollars should be going towards.
It seems there never is enough money for priorities and yet special projects and programs are continuously being legislatively proposed.
Maybe the problem is electeds don't know what taxpayers think should be focused on? Let's find out.
It will be an informative, re-connecting, and "looking towards the New Year" meeting. Hope you can make it!
