Support P-CAP at the Board Meeting on January 10th.
The Complaint Review Committee will be convening on Wed. Jan 11th at the Board Conference Room. See Agenda.
We hope you've had a chance to read the newsletter sent last week. We really hope you had a chance to go to our website at P-CAP.org and review the portions of the books Waterland and Beloved that are in controversy right now (follow this linkhttp://www.p-cap.org/current_issues.html). We need to be proactive, so please keep reading and sending the message out to friends and family within the District.
Please follow the link to an article that appeared in this morning's Plymouth Patch so you can see what is being said. (The Patch reporter was at the P-CAP meeting last night).
Please read the excerpts from the two books posted on our website so you can know what this issue is about, then decide if you would like to add your opinion to the debate.
This is an important issue, even if your child is not in AP English class, because it speaks to the greater issue of parental rights and parental consent before a child is subjected to reading sexually explicit material, as minors.
Here's that link to the Patch article http://canton-mi.patch.com/articles/plymouth-canton-parent-group-we-re-not-going-anywhere
If you can come to the board meeting tonight, or the book review meeting tomorrow, please do so. All viewpoints are welcome.
The dates and times are posted on our calendar: http://www.p-cap.org/calendar.html .
Also, please consider sending e-mails to voice your opinion to Erin Macgregor, who's in charge of overseeing the book review committee, and Dr. Hughes, the superintendent who de-selected the book until a proper review could be done. Dr. Hughes would probably like to know if you support his decision to de-select the book.
As Dr. Hughes stated in the Observer, “…it was my judgment at the time that the majority of parents in Plymouth-Canton would have a similar objection if they read what I read,” said Hughes
E-mail addresses for the Administration and new School Board Members can be found on the website through the same p-cap link above.
