Our Venom Is Our Vote
Senator Patrick Colbeck recently introduced legislation that would create the “campus free speech act” in an effort to ensure that intellectual debate is allowed, encouraged and protected at our universities and community colleges. The measures are Senate Bills 349 and 350.
The legislation would require policies to ensure that campuses not bar or ban any speaker whom students, student groups, or faculty members have invited and who can otherwise legally be allowed on campus. All public areas on campus would also be considered as areas for potential public forums that would be equally open on the same terms to any speaker.
Patrick will be sharing the hows, whats, and whys of the new bills, what we can do to help get the word out, and work towards getting the legislation passed.
Also speaking will be Wes Nakagiri (RetakeOurGov/Gadsden Center) and Deb O'Hagen on their appointments to Co-Chair the new "Unity" Committee (within the MIGOP state committee assembly).
What is unity? What does it look like? How can it be accomplished? Can it be accomplished? Can a committee be effective in bringing it about? If so, how?
Wes and Deb will be sharing their thoughts and ideas on the topic and looking for input and feedback from you the grassroots.
Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday, May 15th!
