Event Description

Please make plans to attend the U.S. Senate Candidate Forum being hosted by the Brighton TEA Party, Rattle With Us, RetakeOurGov, Lakes Area TEA Party and the West Oakland County TEA Party Patriots.

There are a variety of candidates running and we are affording you the opportunity to find the one that works for you - in order for you to work for them!

There will be time to meet each candidate after the forum, so if your particular question wasn't on the list, be ready to ask it yourself.

Don't ask anyone who to vote for, don't let big "endorsements" sway you.  It is YOUR vote and you should know everything about the candidate that receives it.

Glenn wins Grand Traverse GOP debate straw poll, Takes 54% in five candidate contest TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Gary Glenn Wednesday evening won an outright majority of a straw poll taken following a Senate candidates debate sponsored by the Grand Traverse County Republican Party and attended by Glenn and fellow GOP hopefuls. The win was Glenn’s third debate straw poll victory since September.

Straw poll results from the 11/29 joint Tea Party (in Milford MI - see: http://rattlewithus.ning.com/events/u-s-senate-candidate-forum) was:

Clark Durant 46%

Gary Glenn 36%

all others in single digits.

Gary Glenn (32%) won the DeWitt MI poll (http://rattlewithus.ning.com/profiles/blogs/senate-candidates-night/), so it seems we have a clear indication that the Top 2 TEA-PARTY Candidates are Durant and Glenn. We would do well to have either of them over Stabenow. Combining the results of the 2 forums:

Clark Durant 29%

Gary Glenn 33%

This is, of course, in no way scientific (much too small a sample) to give us any definitive information, but I would contend it is still provides the possiblity of spliting the vote in a manner that might result in Hoekstra getting the nomination (just needing to eek out 35% State-wide vote in the Primary). We shall see!?!?

From Nov. 24 Detroit News website:

Stabenow seat could turn red, magazine says

Here's a debate likely to be heard around many dinner tables today: Can Republicans win a Senate seat in Michigan next year?

It's possible, says National Journal in the first of its monthly Senate race rankings.

Sen. Debbie Stabenow 's seat is ranked 13th out of 20 seats most likely to change party.

Admittedly, the Journal says its analysis is based on gut feelings, but also includes poll numbers, fundraising and "buzz."

Of Michigan, the magazine writes: "If any Republican can take advantage of an anti-incumbent wave, it might be in a state where voters are sick of the status quo."

But don't count out Democrat Stabenow, who will face the winner of (for now) a eight-way GOP primary with former U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra the assumed front-runner and charter school founder Clark Durant giving him a run for the money. NJ writers say Stabenow might benefit from a knock-down, drag-out primary that could sap the winner's bank account.

I attended the Dewitt program and it was very informative. Perhaps 150 people were at this meeting in a small town north of Lansing.

A similar forum was held by 3 Tea Party groups in Dewitt MI a few weeks ago. I did a write-up of that - see: Meet the Michigan US Senate Candidates forum report - if you're interested.
