Big government and the vast majority of gun laws are all about CONTROL, not protections.
Under the Constitution, the Federal government does not/should not have the power to infringe upon the gun owning rights of free Americans. Any laws/regulations are at best the venue of the States and states rights. Even common sense says one size does not fit all.
Gun opponents try to frame the debate around hunting/recreation/self protection which is wrong. The NRA, constitutional advocates, and firearm owners/advocates need to congeal and frame the debate properly, consistently, on all fronts.
Namely, FREE Americans have the inalienable right to defend themselves/home/community/nation from ALL enemies both foreign AND domestic.
If the Federal government cannot ban guns outright, they will most certainly try to nibble around the edges (as they already have) until gun freedoms are squeezed into a small corner or effectively crushed. The question is what can we do stop an overreaching Federal Government from pulling the legislation or lethal executive order trigger?
I spoke with an 80 year Russian immigrant who had seen it all in Russia under Stahlin, etc. His unvarnished comment: "Mark my words, first they take your guns, then they take your speech." Chilling and true.
Taxation without representation was one of the big reasons why America sought independence from an oppressive regime. The same goes for today, the only real difference is our own Federal Government is becoming the aggressor. People expect the government to watch out over them in various ways. With all of the telltale signs these days, the big question is:
WHO IS WATCHING THE WATCHER?
