Debate Spotlights GOP Surge Toward 2012

November 18, 2011
The “Your Money, Your Vote: Republican Presidential Debate” at Oakland University was a great event, showcasing Republican plans to restore prosperity to our country. What a great way to head into 2012!

Last Wednesday night in Rochester, Michigan, the leading Republican candidates—Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, and Rick Santorum—discussed their ideas on policies critical to our success as a nation. The debate moderators focused their questions on the issues that are most important to Michigan voters—the economy and job creation. And, our great Republican leaders were effective in conveying the ideas that will help us win the White House next year.

Our Republican Presidential candidates realize that American citizens are burdened by the disastrous policies enacted by the Obama administration. They addressed these failures, and proposed real solutions to get America back on her feet.

While Obama has created countless policies with political motives, our Republican candidates focused on the prosperity of American citizens, not that of the federal government. While the debate participants did not agree on all policies, they focused on the issues voters in Michigan and the entire country are looking for: more efficient ways to create jobs, to encourage the success of American businesses, and to decrease the power of the federal government.

Special thanks go to our partners, CNBC and Oakland University for their part in making this debate a success. Overall, the CNBC “Your Money, Your Vote” debate has been heralded as one of the best presidential debates this year. This tremendous slate of candidates has much to offer in 2012, and their ideas were refreshing and encouraging to viewers across the nation.

And hats off to the MRP Team, led by Executive Director Kim Jorns, Sarah Prues Hecker, Tony Daunt, Megan Danielson, Stu Sandler and the rest of our staff for delivering one of the best logistical executions OU and CNBC have ever seen in their collective histories. Executives from CNBC told me that the debate was one of the best in terms of execution they have seen in the dozen years they have produced such events.

The “Your Money, Your Vote” debate showed the strength behind the Republican Party, its leaders and our principles—limiting government and protecting personal freedom. We have a major decision to make in 2012. Thankfully, our candidates are providing us with solid choices backed by solid ideas. Our Republican candidates continue to show the strength and true passion that will lead our country and its people back to the success and liberty this nation was built upon.

Bobby Schostak
