I wanted to share with you a tribute I wrote 10 years ago after the 9/11 attacks.
It saddens me to see how divided our country is today when we had such unity
in the days following 9/11. Perhaps the commemorations this weekend will serve
as a reminder that we are all Americans.
We the People: The Spirit of Our Nation
On that fateful day when evil came to our own shore
It forever changed the view of this land we all adore
Horror filled our eyes, sorrow filled our heart
But We the People did not fall apart
When our security was shattered on that day of fright
Senseless acts of terror caused We the People to unite
Freedom taken for granted as our American birthright
Is now the cry of a nation that has rallied for the fight
With a legacy of freedom thanks to those who came before
We the People will preserve it now and evermore
Knowing good will prevail despite this terrible wrong
Our hearts appear broken but We the People are strong
Acts of kindness and compassion abound
In We the People true courage can be found
Our leaders inspire us with confidence and pride
Justice will be served with We the People at their side
A horizon full of hope dawns with each new day
Because We the People have the faith to pray
Shed tears and remember all those who we’ve lost
Our everyday heroes who’ve paid the highest cost
They shall not be forgotten lest their deaths be in vain
In the hearts of We the People they will all remain
We are a faithful nation so we don’t find it odd
In our darkest hour We the People turn to God
No longer are we strangers but brothers at the core
We the People stand together as we seldom have before
Fear will not rule us of one thing we can be sure
The spirit of our nation, We the People will endure

It turned out to be a beautiful day today, despite the rainy weather forecast for SE.MI... Great for all of us attending the countless events scheduled. Despite the threats this anniversary brought, it landed up being a safe day across the country (though one airline scare landed in Detroit and one in NY both involving suspicious folks and the airplane bathrooms). Thank God. How/where did you actually spend today?

Thank you for posting the beautiful poem.  It was a sad day today but you are correct about "We the People" - we will stand together when it comes to attacks on our nation, our people, our faith and our freedom.
