Subject: Fair trade policies will help Michigan compete
I firmly believe that Michigan’s auto companies, suppliers, and workers can compete with anyone in the world when given a chance to do so on a level playing field.
That’s why I recently co-sponsored a resolution calling on South Korea to end unfair trade practices related to the automotive industry.
The draft U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement negotiated by the Bush administration still needs to be approved by Congress before it takes effect. Unfortunately, as it’s currently written, this agreement would allow the current discriminatory treatment of imported American automobiles in the Korean market to continue. This is simply unacceptable.
The resolution I’m supporting would establish concrete, achievable incentives for Korea to open its automotive market. By leveling the playing field, we can help Michigan businesses compete globally and get our economy back on track. You can read more about this measure by visiting my website.
Saving and creating Michigan jobs is still my number one priority.
Before Congress takes up new legislation aimed at boosting job creation nationwide, I want to hear from you. Please take a moment to fill out my new online survey to let me know what you think Congress should do to help create jobs for Michigan workers.
I look forward to hearing your ideas. Together, we can turn Michigan’s economy around one job at a time.
