Please call and email your MI Rep and all GOP Reps to defeat HB 5014 NOW!

Please call and email your Michigan Representative and as many other GOP Reps as possible this weekend and urge them to vote no on HB 5014 with or without the Senate’s amendment. This bill should be killed ASAP.

Time is of the essence. A vote may occur at any time next week. Amazingly, the House passed 5014 with virtually no opposition! The Senate gave us a chance to rectify this serious mistake by adding an amendment. So now we can urge our representatives to change their minds on the re-vote. Below you will find a summary and a site where you can read the bill in its entirety. Also you will find a script which you can use for a phone call or email to representatives and contact data for them. Below is is the script.

Thank you for all you do.

Dear Representative,

Please vote no on HB 5014—not just on the Senate Amendment but on the bill in its entirety.

Please do not cooperate in any way with Obamacare. Obamacare is a massive intrusion into the private sector, an egregious usurpation of our rights, an economic disaster, and a potentially lethal endeavor which will ruin the finest health care system in the world. Please do nothing to facilitate it before the Supreme Court rules or until after the 2012 elections hopefully make it moot. There are options ahead such as the Health Care Compact which may pre-empt it altogether.

Please do not vote to spend more Federal money. Every Federal dollar comes with Federal strings. If you start a project with Federal “free” money, you will have to develop the project according to their rules and you will be left to fund the operation, maintenance, improvements, and repairs on your own. Further, every Federal dollar we spend takes this nation one step closer to bankruptcy and we have few such steps left. For these reasons, please do not vote to spend Federal money to pay for electronic records for health care providers or for establishing Obamacare health care exchanges in Michigan as in HB 5014 or for anything else, for that matter.

Further, please vote against HB 5014 because it includes a tax increase. We don’t need more taxes in these trying economic times. We need less spending.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

2011 House Bill 5014: Appropriations: Supplemental budget (Senate Roll Call 675)

Passed 28 to 8 in the Senate on November 10, 2011, to appropriate an extra $366.3 million for several items, including $9.8 million from a federal grant to create a state “Obamacare exchange” to administer federal “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” subsidies. Also included is $119 million that is nearly all federal money for incentive payments to health care providers and facilities to adopt state-approved electronic health care record systems. The bill also appropriates the money from a new 1 percent tax on health insurance claims designed to “game” the federal Medicaid system to get higher federal payments to Michigan’s medical welfare system, and additonal amounts for related items. House Bill 5014: Appropriations: Supplemental budget

Your calls, letters, emails, and visits to our legislators were successful in blunting the implementation of Obama Care in Michigan. As stated below, funding for the Obama Care exchange was stripped out of HB 5014. Thank you for taking the time to lobby your legislators on this important issue.

Passed 101 to 7 in the House on December 13, 2011, to appropriate an extra $351.7 million for several items, including $119 million in mostly federal money for incentive payments to health care providers and facilities to adopt state-approved electronic health care record systems, and $201 million from a new 1 percent tax on health insurance claims designed to “game” the federal Medicaid system to get higher federal payments to Michigan’s medical welfare system, and additonal amounts for related items. The House removed $9.8 million added by the Senate to create a state “Obamacare exchange” to administer “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” subsidies, $8.6 million added to subsidize doctor training programs, around $20 million added for other Medicaid-related disbursements, plus lesser amounts for other state programs.
