and included the following GOP Senate hopefuls (alphabetic):

  • Scotty Boman
  • Clark Durant
  • Gary Glenn
  • Randy Heckman
  • Pete Hoekstra
  • Pete Konetchy
  • Chuck Marino

Some of the questions asked were:

  • Why do you desire to run for US Senate?
  • What are your top 3 agenda items as a US Senator?
  • List 2 specific plans to lower our National debt AND state your position on Illegal Immigration
  • Would you vote to raise Federal taxes? List 2 specific plans to improve our Federal tax code
  • Government has grown substantially in the last 15 years which has led to our catastrophic National debt -- list 3 specific ways you would work to limit the growth of government and to get Americans employed again in private enterprise jobs

The Candidates were each given an Opening and Closing statement (beginning and end of forum) as well as a chance to respond to each question, one question at a time in order, in random order of Candidate to respond. Channel 6 (WLNS/Lansing MI) was on-hand to cover the event for Air (and web-site print; excerpt below including them quoting me).

The responses were of typical Conservative fare courting the Tea Party audience from all the Candidates; with perpetually running Candidate, for one office or another for decades, Scotty Boman going off into usual "Drug legalization" points regardless of the question. Several pointed out that Pete Hoekstra's (CINO/CCINO/Holland MI) record (with many specific vote examples given) record doesn't match his current Conservative rhetoric.

The biggest issue, for Conservatives looking to have a real Conservative nominated for the GOP US Senate 2012 seat challenge to Debbie Stabenow, was it seemed clear; according to the Tea Party groups information tables; that each Tea Party was backing a different Candidate. Unless the Tea Party groups across the state of Michigan come together for a consensus Candidate, it will potentially probably split the vote leaving it open for yet another CINO to take the early 2012 Primary and leaving an un-enthused crowd for the 2012 General Election.

Community members listened to Republican candidates square off against each other to decide who would run against democratic U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow in 2012.

The Tea Party Patriots from several mid-Michigan counties hosted a forum for the candidates in Dewitt on Thursday evening.

Hundreds of people braved the rain to watch a battle unfold. The forum featured 6 Republican candidates, fighting to replace Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabanow.

"We need to replace her she's not a good leader, we need to go in the other direction," said U.S. Senate Candidate Randy Hekman.

During the forum each candidate answered 5 questions about why he should replace Stabenow.

"We need another direction. I've reformed Washington before and, I'll do it again," said Pete Hoekstra.

"For forty years I've done work to help people. At my college I started a publication in primus and I started the alternatives program," said Clark Durant.

Every man towed his own agenda, but they danced around some key issues, such as fixing the economy.

"I am willing to sign the pledge on raising no taxes under any circumstances," said Scotty Boman.

"We need to cut spending. We need to balance the budget," said Peter Konetchy.

Some candidates prided themselves on sticking to the constitution.

"To fix this country we need to stick the constitutional principles this nation was founded on. I would consider my self a Tea Party activist," said Gary Glenn.

Afterwards attendees voted on who they liked the best and some really took the task to heart.

"There are so many emotions to filter through and I'm still learning about the candidates I'm taking notes on their three important issues. The most important thing to me is finding jobs," said Dewitt resident, Deb Devries.

"I know who I'm not voting for. I don't want another Washington insider," said Joe Lenard, Tea Party supporter.

Only one Republican can face off against Stabenow in 2012, so until the primary it's every man for himself.

Two other candidates also plan to run for the senate seat but didn't finish their paperwork in time for the forum.

The primaries are scheduled for next summer.

While I gave the Reporter-ette my best line when she interviewed me: "The old KISS addage of 'Keep It Simple Stupid' has a new twist, it's now 'Kill Insane Spending STUPIDS!'" it didn't make the online article. Hopefully it made it to the WLNS nightly newscasts' airwaves. (see: (RWU) Hey Progressives - Here's Your Sign!)

Marco Rubio is the example…. MI4CS is the way for MICHIGAN….

Why the simple, easy, first choices, are often people’s WORST mistake….

A Super-majority of TEA Party groups from across Michigan are meeting this weekend (Sat. 2/25) to determine who will be the next U.S. Senator from Michigan, at the Michigan4ConservativeSenate (MI4CS) Convention. MI4CS was created following a similar process from Indiana (Hoosiers 4 a Conservative Senate) and may (should?) be the next wave in TEA Party activism, across the country, to ensure REAL CONSERVATIVE Candidates make their way to GOP nominations (from BEFORE Primary elections and onto General election ballots) to thwart Establishment Republican control over the process. Informing/Educating the Electorate of REAL CHOICES and Candidates actual positions/records, before it is too late and we are stuck with them in a General Election as the only alternative to even worse choices of Liberal Democrats!

It is important to remind folks, that MARCO RUBIO was not the easy, simple, first choice of many people in FL for U.S. Senate. Many wanted Charlie Crist (like some in Michigan want to make a similar quick, easy, lazy, and) the Politically expedient option. Fortunately, real Conservative Patriots and the majority of TEA Party members in FL held out for a better choice and Marco Rubio is in the Senate today. Also, many people didn’t have Ronald Reagan as their first choice in 1980 also, thankfully, hard-work and people of principle won out and gave us the greatest President of our life-times. Some want to rush headlong into that mistake again with the Senate choice or even the GOP Presidential nomination this coming Tuesday!

People were also in a big hurry to jump of the “Bob Dole for President” bandwagon, or the “John McCain for President” band-wagon, and we see how well those options worked…. Other examples can also be given… Yet we see people running for the “he’s next in line” seemingly obvious, which should be obviously BAD choices (whether it be for U.S. Senate or this coming Tuesday’s Presidential Primary in MI), again.

A handful of groups want to toss the majority (50 other groups) under the TEA Party Express bus! They’d rather jump on the Political Expedience Express bus with the Washington insider (RINO) or the Party (RINO in-training) insider. Most, fortunately, recognize that this is Michigan’s MARCO RUBIO (Pat Toomey, Rand Paul, etc) moment and are making a stand.

Glenn wins Grand Traverse GOP debate straw poll, Takes 54% in five candidate contest TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Gary Glenn Wednesday evening won an outright majority of a straw poll taken following a Senate candidates debate sponsored by the Grand Traverse County Republican Party and attended by Glenn and fellow GOP hopefuls. The win was Glenn’s third debate straw poll victory since September.

Straw poll results from the 11/29 joint Tea Party (in Milford MI - see: was:

Clark Durant 46%

Gary Glenn 36%

all others in single digits.

Gary Glenn won the DeWitt MI poll (, so it seems we have a clear indication that the Top 2 TEA-PARTY Candidates are Durant and Glenn. We would do well to have either of them over Stabenow. Combining the results of the 2 forums:

Clark Durant 29%

Gary Glenn 33%

This is, of course, in no way scientific (much too small a sample) to give us any definitive information, but I would contend it is still provides the possiblity of spliting the vote in a manner that might result in Hoekstra getting the nomination (just needing to eek out 35% State-wide vote in the Primary). We shall see!?!?

Huckabee endorses Glenn for U.S. Senate
Little Rock, AR – Former presidential candidate and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee Wednesday announced his endorsement of Gary Glenn in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Michigan.
Huckabee posted the following statement on the website of his political action committee HuckPAC:

"I am very happy to endorse and support Gary Glenn for the United States Senate in Michigan. Gary is a person whose clarity of conviction is refreshing. He has boldly led on issues of life, traditional marriage, and the Fair Tax. When I needed help in Michigan in 2008, Gary didn't wait until it was convenient or popular, he stood with me out of sheer courage of his views. Gary Glenn won't take a poll to find out where he needs to stand. He will be a Senator that will take his values with him to Washington. I hope you will join me in getting behind Gary with your prayers, your generous and sacrificial contributions, and your vote."  (HuckPAC:

"The support of a person of Gov. Huckabee's character, leadership, and values is humbling and certainly encouraging, and it's reflective of the grassroots groundswell my candidacy is winning from Tea Party and other conservative activists in the Republican primary," Glenn said.

"No Republican who doesn't have the enthusiastic support of Tea Party and conservative grassroots can defeat Sen. Debbie Stabenow," Glenn said.  "And when conservatives learn about Pete Hoekstra's vote for the Wall Street bailout, debt ceiling increases, and Brady Bill gun control law, and his long record of association with Jimmy Hoffa and opposition to state and national Right to Work laws, they will not support him."
Glenn, who was a featured speaker at the first Tea Party rally in Midland County in April 2009, has won support from Tea Party activists across the state.  Last month, in the only campaign eve
